Things to do in Balfron village

Just under ten miles east from us here at Loch Lomond Waterfront, is the charming village of Balfron. Located on the edge of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. This historic settlement near Endrick Water is a great place to visit, with lots to see and do in the area.

Local landmarks

The Clachan Oak is an ancient oak tree in Balfron, with legendary links to both William Wallace and Rob Roy. Thought to date back to at least 1553, perhaps further, it is known locally as “the hanging tree”. The iron hoops, which now hold the hollow trunk together, were once used to chain people to the tree, as punishment for committing petty crimes. Balfron has a picturesque church, which retains many of its original 19th century features. There is also a war memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars.

Shopping

If you like home baking then stop for some delicious treats at Lou’s Bake Stop. Furthermore, Doyles Cafe offers a place to enjoy fresh homemade food and you can also buy freshly baked bread and cakes that you can bring back to your lodge or chalet!

Parkland golf course

Balfron Golf Club is the village’s local golf course, which welcomes visitors and you can book a tee time online. First opened in 1994, this community venture has grown and developed over time. The parkland course now has 18 holes, and Course Rangers are on hand should you require any help or information during play.
