Equipment hire

Fishing equipment hire Loch Lomond

Guests at Loch Lomond Waterfront can enjoy exclusive access to our private beach, perfect for launching a fishing boat. Locally, you can purchase fishing permits and bait, and arrange boat and equipment hire. Choose from our self-catering lodges, chalets, or cosy shepherd’s huts for an ideal fishing break in Scotland.

Fishing permits

Firstly, you’ll need to ensure you have the correct permit or landowner’s permission for your chosen fishing location. In the nearby village of Balmaha, you can purchase permits from the village shop or boatyard. But they are available from several outlets around Loch Lomond. The specific fishing rules for that place will be detailed on your permit, so please adhere to them at all times. Additionally, be mindful of the fishing season dates, which may differ by location. For more information on permits, where to obtain them, laws, and other guidelines, please visit the national park’s website.

Bait and tackle

Fishing bait and tackle is available from O’Brien’s Newsagents in Bonhill or Loch Lomond Leisure at the Loch Lomond Shores leisure and retail centre in Balloch. Both are around a 25-minute drive from Loch Lomond Waterfront. Knowledgable guides, who can advise on fishing locations and techniques, can also be hired from Loch Lomond Leisure.

Fishing boat hire

Boat hire is also available from Loch Lomond Leisure in Balloch. The fishing boats accommodate up to 4 people and the standard rental includes a boat equipped with two paddles and a petrol engine. All participants will receive a safety briefing, basic training and a buoyancy aid before setting off. After that, you’ll be on your own, free to explore Loch Lomond.

Testimonials

  • Our own private beach

'Just walking along the West Highland way path past some of the crowded beaches made us realise the value of having your own private waterfront onto the loch.  I can still picture walking down to the lochside on our first evening and watching an osprey dive for a fish!'
  • Outstanding location

'The location is outstanding - right on the edge of Loch Lomond with private water frontage and beaches. As a location for exploring, again this rates very highly. We easily accessed central Glasgow by train from nearby Balloch and also explored Stirling (particularly the castle and Wallace memorial), the Falkirk Wheel and even Perth and Pitlochry by car. It is a very peaceful place, which can only be disturbed on occasion by your neighbours but with the Slumber Charter in place, we had absolutely no problems overnight.'
  • Stunning from top to bottom

'We booked this to relax after a family tragedy and it was the perfect tonic. Stunning from top to bottom. The rooms were perfect with all the facilities needed. The hot tub on a winters evening took it to another level. The blackout curtains, allied to no light pollution outside, meant wakening up was the most natural I had experienced for years.'
  • Outstanding

'Chef in a lodge was outstanding. The food was excellent as was the service. Superb evening.'
  • Such a beautiful setting

'Myself and my partner recently stayed in Drummond Lodge (from 21-24 Feb) and we just wanted to say thank you so much for a lovely stay. We loved our lodge, it was like a home from home, and we really didn’t want to leave! It was spotlessly clean and in such a beautiful setting. All the staff we met were really friendly. We also loved Balmaha, what a wonderful village. So thank you very much! We are the couple that took Flynn for a walk and we took this photo of him... we thought you’d appreciate a copy. Thanks once again...
