This autumn, take a trip around some of Scotland’s most famous sites, and even enjoy some seasonal pumpkin picking! It’s a wonderful time of year to stay at Loch Lomond Waterfront as the colours of the leaves change to browns and yellows. The weather is still fine and the days are long enough to pack loads of adventures into them. Here are some ideas on what to do near Loch Lomond in autumn.
Arnprior Farm
Over three weeks in October, Arnprior Farm offers visitors the chance to pick their favourite pumpkins from over 20,000 to choose from. It was Scotland’s original pumpkin festival, and offers a day out for all the family. Additional activities include a quad pod ride, pumpkin cannon, bale mountain and an indoor hay barn. There’s face painting, a bouncy castle and lots of photo opportunities. Plenty of food stalls will be available offering pizzas and burgers. Keep an eye on Arnprior Farm’s website as this is a ticketed event, so make sure you book before you travel.
Stirling Castle & Wallace Monument
Stirling Castle is one of Scotland’s most important castles, and just a 40 minute drive away from Loch Lomond Waterfront. It is brimming with history, home to many of Scotland’s past kings and queens, including Mary Queen of Scots. Much of the interior has been painstakingly recreated to give you an idea of what life as a monarch was like hundreds of years ago.
Not far away from here is the Wallace Monument. This tower remembers one of Scotland’s heroes, William Wallace, and his fight for Scottish independence. Read more about him in our blog here.
Sea Life Loch Lomond
Come and glimpse what life under the sea looks like at Sea Life Loch Lomond. With animals from all over the world, you will be amazed at how close you can get. There are over 1500 creatures to be seen here, including sea turtles, sharks, otters and a tropical reef brimming with life. Make sure you book your slot online (it’s cheaper) before you travel.
Edinburgh & Glasgow
Take a trip through to one of Scotland’s cities for a day. Glasgow is around 45 minutes away by car, and Edinburgh just 90 minutes. Both cities offer their own brand of culture and history, with Edinburgh’s world-famous castle sitting atop its volcanic rock by the city centre. Glasgow meanwhile is a shopper’s paradise!
The lone tree of Milarrochy Bay
If you are looking for a stunning photograph opportunity, then take a trip to the lone tree of Milarrochy Bay. A 6 minute drive or a 44 minute walk will get you to this stunning and most-photographed tree which rises on its own out of the loch. Autumn is a good time to visit because this tree can look stunning during sunsets, which can be wonderful at this time of year.
Hike the Conic Hill
Also good in autumn is hiking up the Conic Hill. At this time of year, the landscape is going through a change of colours and from the top, you can see this change in action. Conic Hill is a walk you should prepare for, but it is doable to most people who have had experience in hillwalking. Check out our page on the wonderful Conic Hill here.
